At 9:20 AM I sent Jeff a text saying that I was in place and ready to shoot. I felt all covert and stuff trying to look nonchalant in the barely-there bushes with my big ‘ol lens to the side of the bluff. I am sure I didn’t look suspicious at all. My heart raced as I saw them ride to the spot Jeff showed me 4 weeks earlier during our first initial plotting. Then, it was happening, he got down on one knee. I couldn’t hear what was happening as I was shooting from afar to give them their moment alone, but I could tell by her reaction that it was a YES!!! Some people biking along the PCH cheered and then I cheered and they hugged and hugged. It was so amazing to be a part of this amazing moment in the lives of two people so very in love.

This is a bluff that Jeff and Nichole come to often to watch the sunrise or sunset as it looks over the PCH. The days beforehand it was raining, but there was no rain in sight. He couldn’t have picked a better time or place, nor could he have picked a better person to have spend the rest of his life with.

Congrats to the lovely Nichole and Jeff! xo, Rachel

Our original plans for this photo shoot were pretty much a bust.  Old Town, San Diego is a special place for Lisa and Chris.  Naturally, they wanted to take photos there, but everyone and their mom decided it was the place to be on that warm Sunday.  After trying to find parking for 30 minutes they texted me to go to Plan B. B for Balboa Park.

This was my first time to Balboa Park, San Diego.  It was busy there too, but the area is huge and we managed to find un-populated areas.  Walking around I instantly felt inspired.  So many lovely museums and beautiful architecture.  I definitely want to come back here just to visit or for another photo shoot.

Of course, even here it didn’t start out as planned.  The Japanese garden didn’t allow photography, the other garden they liked had no flowers in bloom and found out their favorite little Mexican restaurant had closed it’s doors.  :(

In spite of all this, Lisa and Chris never got the least bit discouraged. In fact, we took our bad luck and kicked it in it’s arse and made our own good luck.  Throughout the whole shoot I could see their love for each other shine.  They were never nervous and always knew what to do.  I think it’s because they weren’t trying to do anything, but just be.  Be in love.  Plan Be.

One day I got an e-mail from fellow photographer Brian C. Janes asking me if I was interested in shooting a couples shoot for some friends of his since he would be busy with his current project All That Glitters, I said hell ya.  And when he said they were interested in shooting at the Salton Sea, I said HELLZ YA!
I have always wanted to shoot at the Salton Sea.  The dead salt-encrusted fish, the creepy abandoned houses and that smell. If that doesn’t scream romance I don’t know what does.  Seriously, it’s the perfect landscape.
Jade and Charlie are a beautiful couple whose love for each other is apparent but against that post-apocalyptic atmosphere it became magical.  I had an amazing time with these two.
